Another Great site for Arguments against NCLB

Another website that articulates the challenge of ending NCLB is www.nochildleft.com. The website has petitions for repeal of the act along with horror stories from educational advocates from all over the United States. Here is a sample for your reading pleasure....

Pure Evil?

The Ed Secretary's recent comparison of NCLB to Ivory Soap showed a remarkable ignorance of the damage this program is doing to children, especially to disadvantaged children of color - the very children who were meant to benefit from the law.

Simple-minded right wing ideologues might be happy that 30% of the schools in Jeb Bush's state of Florida are judged failing by NCLB, but most of the world views these failures as remote from being good news or progress. Unless your purpose is to destroy the public system, NCLB ends up looking more like pure evil than Ivory Soap.

As mentioned above, the recent Gallup Poll reports that a majority doubts that NCLB has done any good. It is a policy lunge that must be reversed by the new Congress to be elected in November. Like Iraq and Katrina, NCLB is an example of monumental governmental failure - a set of policies and initiatives that have worsened the quality of life and damaged the prospects of many.

How You Can Make a Difference

I am providing a resource for people interested in ending NCLB. At the top of the page, click on the Vermont Society for the Study of Education for helpful links and suggestions regarding activism against NCLB. Please support the end of our national nightmare.

The Quest for Teacher Respect

My name is Lenny Giardino. I am a school administrator in Upstate New York. I wrote the book The Quest for Human Decency and the soon to be released No Legislator Left Behind. Welcome to my latest blog. Teachers all across the United States have been relegated to test taking supervisors thanks to NCLB. This website is dedicated to teachers wanting to change education and the damaging impact of NCLB. My goal is to change attitudes of those who believe that NCLB is good for our country. I want teachers to impact both social learning as well as academic learning. Our country has abandoned teachers and thanks to the evolution of a service sector economy, people have learned to treat teachers with disrespect.
Parents and students are also welcomed to respond on this blog. They are impacted by NCLB similar to teachers. They deserve to have a voice for change. Your stories will be heard. This blog is part of my on-going research to support the damaging effects of NCLB. Collectively, stories may be used in future editions of my books or sent to legislators themselves. Anonymous entries are welcome to this blog.
